Top 5 Pre-Workout Snacks

I always workout at different times since I work retail and have a very unstructured schedule. But no matter what time of day it is, I like to have a snack or small bite to eat before I work out, especially in the mornings. I am excited to share with you some of my favorite snacks and brands! They aren't super filling but will give you just enough energy to power through a great workout. These options are all simple, tasty and healthy!


1. Energy Bars


These are usually my go-to snack of choice. My absolute favorite pre-workout bars are Verb Bars. Each bar is only 90 calories and has as much caffeine as a shot of espresso. They also taste delicious and come in several flavors. I love all the flavors but my current obsession is vanilla chai.


Verb has a new starter kit available and it's really awesome! You get a full bag of 12 bars in the flavor of your choice, plus a sample of all the other flavors, that’s 16 bars total!


I also love Lara bars and kind bars!


2. Protein Balls



I make protein balls or energy bites every week. They are so easy to make and customize. The bites in the photo above are made with mashed bananas, rolled oats, protein powder, peanut butter, coconut sugar, chia seeds and flax seeds!


3. Rice Cake + Peanut Butter


I love Quaker's caramel rice cakes with Jif natural creamy peanut butter or any type of nut butter! You can also top it off with banana slices for a nice potassium boost.


4. Egg Muffins

Just like protein balls, egg muffins are also easy to make and customize. Such a yummy and savory snack. The bites in the above photo were made with spinach, tomatoes and tri-colored peppers. Click on the photo for the exact recipe!


5. Protein Shakes


You can always make your own protein shakes, but these ready to drink ones are so convenient and tasty! If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see me drinking Koia shakes on my story all the time. They are plant based and chocolate banana is my favorite flavor. I have also tried core power and loved the taste! I hope to try Orgain soon as I have heard great things.


Other popular pre-workout snack options are fruit, granola, trail mix, string cheese, yogurt, etc. So many options out there to help fuel a great workout!
